On 14 Feb this year when love will be expressed with exchange of gifts like roses, chocolates, etc., there will be a very special Valentine gift from the young India to The Sri Ram Sena a la Munabhai way - ‘Pink Chaddis’.
The Pink Chaddi campaign as it is popularly known is been designed by an internet group which is called by the name ‘Consortium of Pub going, Loose and Forward women’. The campaign is launched to oppose Sri Ram Sena in a non violent way who used force against women in a pub in Mangalore and called them ‘loose’ and ‘uncultured’. Isha Manchanda, working with Tehelka, co- founder of the movement said that the Ram Sena attack hardly had anything to do with culture. It was more about news making They have no right to beat anyone. We wanted to ridicule them in a way that would leave a mark.
In just three days about 3170 people joined the campaign. Many men have also joined the campaign against the bully’s and have promised to send as many pink underwear’s they can and of all the different sizes possible.
Kamayani Bali Mahabal, Advocate, Women rights activist, says “The question with Ram Sena is of moral policing, they feel that each woman has to be covered from head to toe and should be cultured. On the other hand the pink chaddi signifies freedom of choice, it is a sign of liberation. It is to tell the Sena that they have no control over women and women sexuality.”
The Chaddi Campaign comes as a befitting reply to all those who think they alone reserve a right to teach people a few moral lessons.
P.S. - I am not pro or anti this campaign. It's just an idea which
I found different so I did this story.
